Behind the Name: The Story and Spirit of Krafty Chameleon Surface Design

A Krafty Chameleon - the very essence of my brand

A business name isn’t just a label — it’s a window into your world, your personality, and your creative vision. For me, Krafty Chameleon isn’t just a playful title; it’s the truest expression of the colourful, adaptive, and joy-filled approach I bring to surface design.

My work can be front and centre or carefully blended into the background depending on what is needed. Even my same pieces when coloured differently can take on totally different roles.

My art and my approach is as blended and evolving as a beautiful chameleon; a creature that is bold and fabulous and subtle and camouflaged all in a matter of seconds.

🌈 Why the Name Matters

The Krafty Chameleon name has been a part of my craft work for a number of years.  It started when I was designing and sewing dresses and making crochet items as gifts.  My craft was always colourful and ever changing in what I made and designed.  There was a cohesion to my work but never a repetition.

I knew I needed a brand that reflected more than just what I make — it had to reflect who I am. Names carry energy. They attract the right people. They become part of your identity as a maker. So I didn’t take choosing mine lightly.

🦎 Why Krafty Chameleon?

The chameleon spoke to me instantly. It’s bold and bright when it wants to be. It adapts, shifts, and thrives in new environments — just like I’ve had to do moving from spreadsheets to sketchbooks. Creativity for me is about transformation — taking something ordinary and infusing it with colour, personality, and meaning.

The “Krafty” part? That’s a nod to the handmade, the thoughtful, the imaginative as well as my vibrance and cheekiness and my tendency to look at the world sideways from my own perspective.. It also reminds me not to take myself too seriously — that playfulness is part of my magic.

Together, Krafty Chameleon became the perfect reflection of my personal creative evolution and the kind of work I want to be known for: adaptable, eye-catching, and always full of story.

What It Says About My Work

Surface design is about more than making something pretty. The patterns I create are designed to shift shape — to fit into different products, brands, and aesthetics while still carrying a spark of individuality. That’s where the chameleon magic happens.

My designs can feel elegant, folksy, playful, or bold depending on how they’re used. I’m proud that I can bring versatility to my clients and collaborators — whether they’re indie makers, small business owners, or product developers looking for something unique.

The chameleon imagery and name speaks to exactly what my approach to my art is; adaptive. I have a style and a feel but it can evolve and change depending on my mood, my inspiration and most importantly what my clients want and need from my art but all through that evolution and adaptivity the inner chameleon creativity stays strong and true to who I am.

💼 Why It Resonates with My Clients

Clients often tell me they were drawn to the name before they even saw the work. It makes them smile. It feels creative. It hints that I’m someone who’s flexible, imaginative, and just a little unexpected — all of which are values I bring to not just every project but my life as a whole.

The name is more than just cute, it gives an essence of my working approach, me as a person and the type of creativity, fun and magic I can bring to my client’s projects.

And let’s be honest, in a crowded design space, a name that sticks in someone’s head is a quiet little superpower.

💡 For You: Finding a Name with Meaning

A business name is so personal and you have to hear it and say it so often that it can feel overwhelming trying to land on the right one,  Analysis paralysis is definitely strong in this space.  Remember you don’t have to stick with the first name you land on and give yourself some time and space to live with your name before branding everything.  That way you can see whether it still speaks to your heart a few weeks down the line.

If you’re naming (or renaming) your own creative business, here’s my advice:

  • Start with what lights you up. What colours, symbols, or words describe how you want people to feel when they experience your work?

  • Think about your journey. How has your life and experience shaped your creativity? Can you bring part of your story into your name?

  • Say it out loud. Does it feel fun? Professional? Memorable? You want something you won’t cringe at saying over and over again

And most of all — let it feel like you.

🧵 Wrapping It Up

So that’s the story behind Krafty Chameleon. A name rooted in adaptability, resilience, colour, and playful and continually evolution. A name that reminds me daily that creativity is a journey — and that it’s okay (wonderful, even!) to change, shift, and surprise people along the way.

If you’ve got your own story behind your business name, I’d love to hear it. Let’s connect — drop it in the comments or send me a message. I’m all ears.
